The 3rd edition of the International Conference on "The Situation of the Child in Cross-Border Cases," organized by the Greater Poland Bar Association in Poznań, brought together lawyers and experts specializing in international matters, with a particular focus on family law and the protection of children's rights.
Among the speakers was Anna Ziarkowska—an advocate, solicitor, and notary public, qualified in both the Polish and Scottish legal systems, and founder of the law firm Lege Expertia in Scotland.
In her presentation, Anna Ziarkowska outlined the key differences between the distinct legal systems of Scotland and those of England and Wales, highlighting their practical implications for handling cross-border cases. She addressed issues concerning jurisdiction, procedural variations, and the challenges faced by lawyers representing clients in matters that span the different legal systems within the United Kingdom.
The conference also covered topics such as international divorce, parental responsibility, relocation and parental abduction, the application of the Hague Convention, and inheritance cases involving minors.
The event served as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between members of the Polish and British legal communities, underscoring the importance of understanding different jurisdictions for the effective handling of international legal matters.
